ColdCaseDVDs.com FAQs (frequently-asked questions)
Question
- How do you even know that Kathryn Morris wants to be on "Saturday Night Live"?
- Why don't we have someone gather all the cards first and then send them to make a big impact?
- How do we know if they aren't already planning to release Cold Case on DVD, and we just don't know about it?
Answer
Because before we started all this, I checked with InsideR (the connection at the studios) on how to direct our efforts for both campaigns. You can read about it here.
I also sent letters to Lorne Michaels, Tina Fey and Kathryn Morris' agency in Hollywood, basically telling all of them about what we're doing and to email me before June 15th if they have any objections. Those letters were sent three weeks ago in May 2006, and I haven't heard from any of them that they're not interested.
Letters were also sent to Les Moonves, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, and Meredith Stiehm to check with them about the DVD campaign. Part of the reason why this site wasn't launched until June 15th was because we were giving these people time to opt-out from receiving postcards in our campaigns. None of our recipients has objected to what we're doing here.

Several reasons:
1) Someone is going to have to give out their home address,
2) That person is going to have to sort thousands of postcards to each recipient. Remember, each person will be mailing four postcards for the DVDs, and two more for SNL.
3) The postcards will get delayed going to the studios as that person waits for people to mail them in,
4) That person needs to pay postage *again* to mail the postcards to the studios, when they could have been mailed directly to them in the first place!
5) It defeats the purpose of using postcards. The whole reason why we're using postcards (instead of sealed letters) is to make it easier for the studio's Mail department to sort our postcards from their regular business mail, and also from the postcards that other television fans mailing in for their favorite show.
Again, a postcard campaign is a time-tested and proven method in getting studios to listen to fans. (See the "Web Links" section for campaigns done by fans for other shows.) It's worked many times before, so we're simply following in their experiences and knowledge with a method that works!
Great question!
For starters, a formal announcement would be made from TimeWarner (Warner Brothers' parent company) in a press release. You can search TimeWarner's newsroom here: http://www.timewarner.com/corp/newsroom
Try keywords such as "Cold Case" or "DVD release". You'll find news about Cold Case and other DVDs being released, but no news about Cold Case DVDs coming out. As Cold Case is one of their higher-rated shows without DVDs, this would be very newsworthy and you'd come across that info from many sources (not just TimeWarner) if and when this happens.
Warner Brothers' web site has a list of future releases:
http://whv.warnerbros.com/WHVPORTAL/Portal/browsesearchtitles.jsp?functionmode=2
As you can see, Cold Case isn't listed as an "Upcoming Release".
Industry sites are good to keep an eye on:
http://www.imdb.com/recommends/comingsoon
http://www.Variety.com/
http://www.TVShowsOnDVD.com/
... again, no word on an upcoming Cold Case DVD.
Here's a site where you can see DVD releases from all studios up until October 2006:
http://www.TheFutonCritic.com/dvd.aspx
No future release for Cold Case DVDs there either!
The simple fact is: Cold Case DVDs are not coming out anytime soon!
HOWEVER:
You can change that, and this is why the postcard campaign is very important for everyone to join and participate in!
